Desperately Seeking Susans

Though many anthologies purport to establish a new canon, Desperately Seeking Susans simply luxuriates in the ridiculous surfeit of talent we can find in not only Canadian poets, not only female Canadian poets, but female Canadian poets named Susan.

Desperately Seeking Susans has been featured in Macleans Magazine and CBC’s The Next Chapter!

The Vancouver Weekly says “This is a collection that is unapologetic in its exploration of the feminine as a means of triangulating the expectations and experiences of mothers, daughters, lovers, and thinkers alike and is constantly renewing the definition of what it means to be a woman…being a poet and having seen a number of these woman read their own work, I felt like an anthology of this nature has a crucial role to play in bringing a strong feminist voice to the forefront of Canadian poetry.  One of my favourite (and at this stage in my life, most trusted) credos is that “poetry is inherently political”.  By that standard, Desperately Seeking Susans is proclaiming something about women in Canadian culture, and we owe it to ourselves to listen.”

Pickle Me This  had fantastic things to say about the book as well  “I love this is a book founded on such a fun premise, and how the  richness and quality of the work did not have to suffer for that fun. It is an essential addition to the library of any Susan, or to anybody who loves poetry, or anyone who doesn’t know yet how much she really does.”

Included in the anthology are works by:
Susan Andrews Grace
Susan Briscoe
Sioux Browning
Sue Chenette
Susan Elmslie
Susan Gillis
Susan Glickman
Sue Goyette
Susan Holbrook
Susan Ioannou
Sue Macleod
Susan Musgrave
Susan McMaster
Susan Olding
Sue Sinclair
Sue Stewart
Susan Telfer
Sue Wheeler

Check out the beautiful, wonderful, crazy talent these ladies possess!

This is absurd. Maybe eventually you could include Canadian female poets named Suzy, or Suzanne, or even Susana.
